After a highly-successful debut last year, the Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF) is returning this August with the aim of fostering local artistic talent and promote Vancouver as a major contributor to the international art scene.

Original art will be everywhere this August - with 50 new murals in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood alone.

With diversity at the festival's heart, artist applications are evaluated to fill artistic and demographic gaps in the current mural collection. The festival provides a platform for vibrant young artists to contribute to the city’s cultural legacy for years to come. The artists themselves have extremely eclectic backgrounds, ranging from illustration to set painting and tattooing.

45 Canadian and eight international artists are featured in this year's festival - including UK artist David Shillinglaw and Mexico's Irving Cano

Festival highlights include art talks (Monday, August 7), a live art night (Tuesday, August 8), a speaker series (Wednesday, August 9), a gallery show opening (Thursday, August 10), a Painter’s Prom (Friday, August 11) and the VMF Main Street Festival (Saturday, August 12).

In addition to the festival, VMF mural tours take place around Mount Pleasant and the False Creek Flats throughout the year. There are two tours every Saturday, at 11am and 1.30pm. Tour tickets cost $20 for one or $30 for two, and student and senior discounts available.  Tickets are available here.

The stylish Landis Hotel & Suites is perfectly located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, providing easy access to the city’s funkiest festivals. Each suite features excellent downtown views, two bedrooms and separate living and dining areas. The property is also within walking distance of Stanley Park, Vancouver Art Gallery, historic Gastown and hip Yaletown.
